MIS – NASCAR 2011

The process of buying a new computer has left me spending time archiving, deleting, moving and trying to remember if I already saved that file. Good news, old photos come out of the dreadful process. Here is a collection I meant to upload and never had the time for.

Back Story:

NASCAR has two races in June and August. I attended a June race a few years back, as joke, and I’ve been hooked since. So when I got the chance to do some freelance work and it happened to be NASCAR I was pumped.

The experience of having a car whipping by at 200 mph and picking track/tire out of your hair for the next three days is an experience.

It wasn’t all fun. The days are long. We are talking leaving for the track at 6 a.m. and staying until 8 p.m. You’re exposed to the elements, rain, sun, really hot sun and black pavement. You carry a ton of gear the first day and the second day you’re so sore, but you might need the gear, so you carry it anyway. Oh, don’t forget the walking. My advice, forget dieting, just become a full-time NASCAR photographer.

I have a new found respect for the guys at Getty and AP who travel the circuit. It’s fun, but a lot of hard work.
